Cornelius Public Service

- Unmatched record of public service by a citizen, appointed to a town commission, task forces, and committees for over 7 years. (Served on the former mayor’s Advisory Committee and was presented one of the first Town Medallion in recognition for Exemplary Service by Mayor Washam
- Served as the Chair of the Parks, Art, Recreation, and Culture Commission for almost 7 years as a strong force in enhancing the “quality of life” for Cornelius through PARC and Town monthly events.
- In 2020, was the recipient of the Raburn Jackson Award, by the NC State Parks and Recreation Association to the most outstanding member of a local advisory board for parks and recreation
- Member, Affordable Housing Committee (appointed by Mayor Travis)
- Member, Pre-Development Committee, charged with providing the initial review of all new development and business projects for the Town of Cornelius for 6 years
- Member, Planning Board, 2022-2025
- Former Chair, Advisory Board, on the original Mayor’s Strategic Working Group Task Force charged with planning the present, Cain Center for the Arts.
- Member, Mecklenburg County Northern Recreation Center Stakeholder Committee and primary citizen advocate for the initial approval and funding of the recreation center in Cornelius.
- Member, Cornelius Public Safety Management Steering Committee
- At Large Member, SAFE (Street Access for Everyone) representing the Town of Cornelius and area cyclists. Primary citizen advocate for pedestrian and cycling safety in Cornelius
- Driver, Second Harvest, Metrolina Food Bank, food recovery from 12 grocery stores for hungry children and food deprived adults
- Recipient, Caregiver’s Award for Charlotte by the national Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF)
- Member, Jackson County, North Carolina Economic Development Commission
- Member, Western Carolina University Chancellor’s Internal Advisory Committee on Economic Development
